BREAKING NEWS: Far-Left 'Squad' Member LOSES Primary Race - Democrats Are STUNNED

Chicago, Illinois - June 4, 2026

Progressive activist Kat Abughazaleh, a 26-year-old former Media Matters journalist, lost her bid for the Democratic nomination in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District on Tuesday.

Abughazaleh finished behind Daniel Biss in a crowded primary to replace retiring Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who held the heavily Democratic seat for nearly three decades.

Biss, a former state senator who campaigned on a more traditional Democratic platform, secured the nomination with the endorsement of Schakowsky.

The primary effectively decided the general election in the deep-blue district. Abughazaleh had positioned her campaign as a challenge to party establishment figures, promoting a younger, digital-first approach and criticizing what she called entrenched political structures.

Federal Charges Stem from ICE Facility Protests

The campaign was overshadowed by a federal indictment filed last October charging Abughazaleh with conspiracy and forcibly impeding a federal agent.
