FINAL DECISION - FEDS DROP HAMMER ON 'THE VIEW'

WASHINGTON, D.C. — August 14, 2026

Federal regulators are intensely scrutinizing whether ABC’s daytime talk show “The View” qualifies for a crucial exemption under federal broadcast laws.

The debate centers on whether the program operates as a legitimate news program or a platform for partisan political commentary, a distinction carrying significant regulatory implications for its parent company, Disney.

The controversy escalated this week when Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr addressed the review on social media.

Carr shared a video montage highlighting instances of the show’s co-hosts criticizing Republican politicians while exclusively expressing support for Democratic candidates and progressive policies.

Under federal law, the FCC’s equal time rule requires broadcasters to provide legally qualified political candidates with comparable airtime. However, the framework includes exemptions for programs officially designated as “bona fide news programming.”
