The De la Vega mansion exuded an icy elegance. It was the wedding day of Alejandro, a business magnate whose fortune was surpassed only by his temper, and Elena, a woman whose dazzling beauty masked boundless ambition. To the world, it was the wedding of the year; to Elena, it was the culmination of a meticulously crafted plan to secure her future.

However, there was one obstacle: Leo, Alejandro's six-year-old son. The innocent boy, devoted to his father, was the only one standing in Elena's way to total control of the family inheritance. For weeks, she had cultivated a facade of sweetness, but deep down, she harbored a resentment that grew with every show of affection Alejandro lavished on the little boy.
On the day of the ceremony, the air was thick with an invisible tension. Elena, wearing a wedding dress that resembled a suit of white lace armor, watched as the guests began to arrive. Alejandro was busy greeting the dignitaries, neglecting Leo for barely a few minutes. It was in that moment of distraction that Elena saw her opportunity. With an icy smile and whispered words, she lured Leo toward the mansion's old servants' wing, promising him a special gift hidden in a storage room.
The boy, trusting, went inside. In a swift motion, Elena closed the heavy wood and glass door, turning the key with a metallic click that echoed in the empty hallway. She made sure the key was tucked away in her belt.
The chaos began an hour later. Alejandro was desperately searching for his son. Shouts of “Leo!” mingled with the orchestral music that resonated from the main hall. The maid, Maria, who had been searching for the boy from the start, noticed a shadow behind the glass of the servants' wing door. As she approached, her heart stopped: there was Leo, pounding on the glass with his small hands, his face contorted with tears and terror.
“He locked me in! He locked me in!” the boy screamed, his voice barely audible through the glass.
Maria, horrified, ran to find Alejandro, who was at that moment confronting Elena about the little boy's disappearance. The maid stumbled into the main hall in her haste and threw herself at the bride's feet, pleading in a broken voice as she pointed toward the corridor.
Alejandro, understanding the implication, felt his blood boil. His eyes, bloodshot with rage, fixed on Elena. Trembling, she tried to back away, but Alejandro was faster. He cornered her, his face inches from hers, his face contorted with murderous fury.
"You…" Alejandro roared, his voice trembling with pure anger. "Tell me where the key is!"
Elena, her eyes brimming with fake tears and her face contorted with fear, could only sob as she clutched the key to her chest. The mansion fell silent, and in that moment, their world crumbled. Elena took a step back.
Then another.
The key remained tightly gripped in her fist.
The guests watched from the main foyer, unable to tear their gaze away.
A few feet away, behind a heavy glass door, Leo continued pounding desperately.
"Dad! Dad!"
That voice pierced Alejandro like a knife.
"Give me the key," he said through gritted teeth.
Elena began to cry.
"I didn't do anything..."
"GIVE ME THE KEY!"
The shout echoed throughout the mansion.
For a second, it seemed Elena was going to hand it over.
But then something unexpected happened.
She smiled.
A small smile.
Cold.
Terrible.
And Alejandro understood something that chilled him to the bone.
She wasn't scared.
She was calculating.
"If you touch me," she whispered, "in front of all these witnesses, you'll lose much more than a wedding."
The blood drained from Alejandro's face.
Because she was right.
There were cameras.
Press.
Businesspeople.
Politicians.
Everyone was watching.
Elena knew exactly how to use that.
She always had.
Then Maria, the maid, spoke.
"She's not alone."
Everyone turned around.
The woman was trembling.
But she was no longer silent.
"I heard her on the phone two weeks ago."
Elena stiffened.
"Maria…"
"I heard her."
The maid pulled an old cell phone from her pocket.
"And I recorded the conversation."
The silence became absolute.
Maria pressed play.
Elena's voice filled the hallway.
Clear.
Unmistakable.
"When I get married, the child will be the only heir left."
A pause.
Then another unfamiliar voice.
"And what will you do with him?"
The answer came like a gunshot.
"The same thing other women have done before me. Make him disappear from the equation."
A horrified murmur rippled through the room.
Elena's face drained of color.
"That's taken out of context..."
María played another excerpt.
"Alejandro will sign anything when it comes to protecting his son. I just need him to trust me for a few more months."
Another.
"After the wedding, everything will be mine."
The guests began to move away from her.
As if they were suddenly seeing who she really was.
But the real blow was yet to come.
Because a man appeared in the crowd that no one expected.
An elegant old man.
White hair.
An ebony cane.
And an icy gaze.
