Chapter 1: The Truth on the Screen

Alexander's hands trembled as he took the tablet from the head of security.

The surveillance footage began without sound.

There was his mother, Evelyn, slowly turning away after the conversation.

Then Victoria glanced over both shoulders.

She waited until no one was watching.

Without hesitation, she shoved Evelyn with both hands.

Alexander watched his mother lose her balance before crashing down the marble staircase.

The impact echoed through the empty mansion.

The video stopped.

Silence swallowed the room.

Victoria forced a laugh.

"Alexander... that's not what it looks like."

He didn't even look at her.

"Play it again."

The guard replayed the footage from another camera angle.

This time there was no doubt.

No accident.

No misunderstanding.

It was deliberate.

Victoria grabbed Alexander's arm.

"She provoked me! She wanted you to hate me!"

Alexander slowly pulled his arm away.

"My mother has never asked me for a single dollar."

His voice became frighteningly calm.

"But you just tried to take her life."

Paramedics rushed Evelyn to the hospital while police officers arrived at the mansion.

Victoria's smile finally disappeared as cold steel handcuffs closed around her wrists.

She screamed Alexander's name all the way to the police car.

He never answered.

Inside the ambulance, Evelyn briefly opened her eyes.

She whispered only four words.

"Check... my old letter..."

Then she lost consciousness again.
