Chapter 1 – The Whisper
Chapter 1 – The Whisper

Ethan's tiny fingers clutched my pajama sleeve so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
"Daddy..."
His voice barely existed.
I bent down until my ear was beside his lips.
He glanced toward the bedroom door to make sure it was closed.
Then he whispered.
"Mom put the necklace in Maya's backpack."
For several seconds, I couldn't breathe.
"What did you say?"
Tears rolled down his cheeks.
"I saw her. She told us to stay upstairs. But Caleb wanted his toy, so we came down. Mommy opened Maya's backpack... and she put the jewelry inside."
My heartbeat thundered in my ears.
"No, buddy... are you sure?"
He nodded desperately.
"She saw me watching."
His whole body began shaking.
"She smiled at me... and said if I ever told you, you'd leave us forever."
I wrapped him in my arms as he cried.
Every instinct told me to storm downstairs and confront Vivian immediately.
But another instinct—one I had learned after years of negotiating with powerful people—told me something else.
If Ethan was telling the truth...
My wife had framed an innocent woman.
And if she could do that...
What else was she capable of?
The next morning I acted as though nothing had changed.
I kissed Vivian goodbye.
Smiled over breakfast.
Even joked about an upcoming charity gala.
She never suspected a thing.
The moment she left the house, I called my head of security.
"I need every security recording from this house."
He hesitated.
"Sir... Mrs. Hale requested yesterday's footage be erased. She said it was for privacy."
A chill spread through my body.
"Can it be recovered?"
May you like
"...Maybe."For the first time in fifteen years of marriage...
I realized my greatest enemy might be sleeping beside me.
