Episode 3: Secrets in the Vault

The heavy iron doors of the Vanguard family mausoleum groaned on their rusted hinges as Julian threw his entire weight against them, forcing them open just as the red digital timer on the screen hit a terrifying zero. His breath came in ragged gasps, his heart hammering against his ribs in the damp, suffocating darkness of the tomb. Flashlight beams cut through the swirling dust, illuminating the cold stone walls. There, huddled on a marble bench, sat little Leo. He was shaken but completely uninjured, tightly clutching a dusty, locked leather diary to his chest as if it were a shield. Relief washed over Julian, but it was instantly replaced by a cold dread as his eyes locked onto the ancient volume.

Safely back inside the estate, Julian pried open the brass lock of the diary. As he turned the yellowed pages, his hands trembled. There, stamped with an official hospital seal, were the medical records from ten years ago. They explicitly confirmed that Sarah had been legally declared brain-dead following her horrific car crash. Julian stared at the cold, clinical text, a wave of profound justification washing over him. He hadn't abandoned her out of malice; the system itself had told him she was gone. For a fleeting moment, he believed he was entirely innocent of her suffering, a victim of a tragic mistake rather than a perpetrator of a cruel plot.

But the relief vanished when Leo’s small fingers tapped a loose piece of lining at the back of the leather casing, revealing a hidden compartment. Julian pulled out a folded, crisp document—a secret contract dated mere days after the accident. His eyes scanned the signatures at the bottom: one belonged to the chief medical examiner, and the other belonged to Victoria, Julian’s current high-society fiancée. The terms were undeniable. Victoria had paid a massive fortune to forge the death certificate, intentionally burying Sarah alive in a remote facility to clear her own path to the Vanguard throne and fortune.

Fury, raw and blinding, consumed Julian as he stormed out into the cemetery to confront Victoria, who was waiting by her sleek black sedan. As he held up the contract, his voice echoing fiercely among the headstones, Victoria’s panicked expression shifted from shock to cold calculation. Realizing her empire was crumbling, she dove into the driver's seat. Before Julian could react, the engine roared to life. The car accelerated directly toward him, the headlights blinding as the vehicle pinned him violently against a stone wall before speeding away into the dark night, leaving him broken on the gravel path.
