Chapter 1: The Waltz of the Damned

The ballroom was a tomb of polished marble and cold, suffocating elegance. Elara felt the bite of the checkered floor against her bruised knees, the lace of her gown snagging on the stone—a stark contrast to the man standing over her. Nathan. He held the cane like an extension of his own malice, his suit immaculate, his expression a vacuous mask of refined cruelty.

"Two hundred," he murmured, the number hanging in the air like a death sentence.

The chandelier above hummed, casting a spotlight that felt more like an interrogation lamp. Elara looked at her reflection in the dark, mirrored surface of the floor, then up at him. She was broken, literal and metaphorical, yet her mind raced, cataloging the exits, the guards, the subtle tilt of Nathan’s head. This wasn't just an interrogation; it was a performance.

"You really think you’ve won, don't you?" Elara whispered, her voice cracking. Blood trickled from a cut on her forehead, tracing a path down to her trembling chin.

Nathan chuckled, a dry, humorless sound. "Winning implies a contest, Elara. This is merely a consequence." He tapped his cane against the floor. The rhythm was hypnotic. He was waiting for something, or someone. The woman in the shadows behind him, a mere silhouette in an armchair, sipped her drink with terrifying indifference.

Elara’s hand reached out, brushing against the smartphone lying on the marble. Incoming Call – DAD. The screen pulsed, a beacon of hope in this hellscape. She needed to stall. She needed to make him believe she was defeated.

"I have the evidence, Nathan," she lied, her voice gaining a sharp, desperate edge. "You destroy me, you destroy the only leverage you have against them."

Nathan paused. The cane stopped mid-air. For a fraction of a second, the mask slipped, revealing the raw, desperate fear beneath the polished exterior. That was all she needed.
