Part 3 – The Chairman's Promise

The next morning, Leo arrived precisely at nine o'clock.
He stood outside the towering Sterling Enterprises headquarters, dressed in the only suit he owned.
It was five years old.
Pressed carefully the night before.
As the revolving glass doors opened, dozens of executives hurried through the marble lobby, each carrying expensive briefcases and speaking into wireless headsets.
Leo suddenly felt out of place.
A young receptionist greeted him politely.
"Good morning, Mr. Vance."
She already knew his name.
"Mr. Sterling is expecting you."
Leo was escorted to a private elevator that required a security card.
It rose silently to the top floor.
When the doors opened, Arthur Sterling was waiting beside a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.
"I'm glad you came," Arthur said with a smile.
"So am I, sir."
Arthur handed him a leather folder.
Inside were architectural drawings.
The new salon was unlike anything Leo had imagined.
Italian marble floors.
Private VIP suites.
Training academies.
A photography studio.
Even a scholarship program for young barbers who couldn't afford professional education.
Leo stared at the plans.
"This is incredible..."
Arthur smiled.
"No."
"This is your dream."
"I only paid for the building."
Before Leo could answer...
The conference room doors suddenly burst open.
A tall woman in an expensive gray business suit entered without knocking.
She looked to be in her early thirties.
Sharp eyes.
Perfect posture.
An expression that showed she rarely accepted being told no.
"Grandfather."
Her voice was cold.
"We need to talk."
Arthur sighed quietly.
"Leo."
"This is my granddaughter..."
"Victoria Sterling."
Victoria barely acknowledged him.
Instead, she placed a thick stack of documents onto the table.
"I've just spoken with the board."
"They're refusing to approve this project."
Arthur calmly folded his hands.
"I wasn't asking for permission."
Victoria glanced toward Leo for the first time.
"So this is him."
"The barber."
Leo stood politely.
"Nice to meet you."
She ignored his extended hand.
"Grandfather..."
"You want to hand over a forty-million-dollar property..."
"...to someone you've known for less than an hour?"
Arthur answered immediately.
"I've known enough."
Victoria shook her head.
"Kindness doesn't qualify someone to run a luxury business."
"It doesn't teach accounting."
"It doesn't build a global brand."
"It certainly doesn't satisfy shareholders."
The room fell silent.
Arthur slowly looked toward Leo.
"What do you think?"
Leo hesitated.
Then he spoke honestly.
"She's right."
Victoria blinked.
"I don't know anything about running a company."
"I've never managed millions of dollars."
"I've never led hundreds of employees."
Arthur remained silent.
Leo continued.
"But I do know one thing."
"I know how customers should be treated."
"I know how employees should be respected."
"And I know what it feels like when people judge you before they know your name."
Victoria crossed her arms.
"That still doesn't make you qualified."
Leo nodded.
"No."
"It doesn't."
"So don't give me the company today."
Arthur raised an eyebrow.
Leo took a deep breath.
"Give me one chance to earn it."
Victoria frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"Let me start with one location."
"No special treatment."
"No fake publicity."
"If I fail..."
"I'll walk away."
"If I succeed..."
"Then nobody can say I was given everything."
Arthur smiled proudly.
Before he could answer...
Victoria surprised everyone.
She slowly walked around the table until she stood directly in front of Leo.
"You really believe you can build a luxury salon from scratch?"
Leo met her eyes.
"I believe I can build a place where people are treated with respect."
For the first time...
Victoria didn't argue.
Instead...
A faint smile appeared.
"So do I."
Arthur looked between them, slightly confused.
Victoria finally turned back to her grandfather.
"I'll approve the project."
"But under one condition."
Arthur laughed softly.
"I knew there would be one."
Victoria looked directly at Leo.
"For the next six months..."
"You answer to me."
"I'll audit every decision."
"Every dollar."
"Every hire."
"If you cut corners..."
"I'll shut the project down myself."
Leo smiled.
"Deal."
Arthur extended his hand toward both of them.
"Then let's build something this city has never seen."
None of them noticed the man standing outside the conference room.
He quietly lowered his phone after taking several photographs through the glass wall.
He immediately sent them to an unknown number.
His message contained only seven words.
He's inside Sterling Enterprises. Begin Phase Two.
Miles away...
Someone smiled while reading the message.
Leo believed he had just received the opportunity of a lifetime.
May you like
He had no idea...
Someone else had just decided to destroy it.
