CHAPTER 55

CHAPTER 55 — The Core Protocol
Her mother walked to a massive, circular steel terminal in the center of the bunker. In its center was a deep, circular indentation that matched the antique brass key perfectly. Next to it was a polished glass pad for a biometric palm-scan.
"The Zurich Syndicate has initiated a hostile override of our global assets," her mother explained, her eyes fixed on Valeria. "In less than twenty minutes, they will dump our three billion dollars into a dead-wallet array, effectively wiping our financial footprint off the Earth. The Phoenix Alliance, your reputation, our survival—everything vanishes. Unless you lock the core."
"And if I lock it?" Valeria asked.
"If you lock it, you seize absolute control of the Syndicate's routing architecture," Ernesto stepped forward, his eyes burning with a desperate intensity. "You don't just save our money, Valeria. You become the central clearing house for every hidden transaction on the planet. You become the law."

Valeria looked at the terminal. She could feel the weight of thirty years of manipulation pressing down on her shoulders. The abuse from Julian, the lies from Ofelia, the fake birthdays, the trauma—it had all been a forge to bring her to this exact room, at this exact hour.

"You want me to become the monster so you can ride my coat-tails," Valeria whispered.
"We want you to survive," her mother countered sharply. "Choose, Valeria. The Syndicate's strike team is already at the perimeter gates."
