Part 4: The Shadow War Returns

Screams erupted across the ballroom.
Crystal glasses shattered.
Guests dropped to the floor as panic spread through the luxurious hall.
Emergency lights flickered to life, bathing everything in an eerie red glow.
Christian instinctively shielded Ethan with his own body.
"Marcus!"
"I'm here!"
The security chief appeared through the chaos, one hand gripping his concealed firearm while scanning every doorway.
"One of our guards is down."
Christian's jaw tightened.
"This wasn't meant to scare us."
"It was meant to isolate us."
Another gunshot echoed from somewhere inside the hotel.
Then...
Silence.
Too much silence.
Marcus spoke into his radio.
"No response from Team Bravo."
Again.
Nothing.
Christian immediately understood.
The attackers weren't rushing.
Professionals never rushed.
They controlled fear before they controlled people.
Ethan suddenly grabbed Christian's sleeve.
"They wear black birds..."
Christian looked down.
"What?"
"The men chasing us..."
"They all have the same tattoo."
The boy used his finger to draw the shape on Christian's palm.
A crow.
Its wings spread wide.
Exactly the same emblem Scott had once shown him inside a classified military bunker.
The Crows.
They had finally revealed themselves.
Marcus handed Christian a tablet connected to the hotel's security cameras.
Several feeds had gone black.
Others showed masked men calmly walking through service corridors.
None of them appeared nervous.
They knew the building.
Too well.
"They've been here before," Christian muttered.
Marcus nodded grimly.
"Someone on the inside gave them access."
Before either man could react, one camera feed froze on a familiar face.
Christian's blood ran cold.
Standing beside one of the masked intruders...
Was David Reynolds.
The trusted Chief Financial Officer of Vance Global.
Christian had worked beside David for eleven years.
He knew every company account.
Every security protocol.
Every private schedule.
Marcus stared in disbelief.
"It can't be."
Christian never took his eyes off the screen.
"It can."
"The war didn't follow Ethan here."
"It infiltrated my company years ago."
At that exact moment, Christian's personal phone vibrated.
Unknown Number.
He answered.
A calm, distorted voice filled the line.
"Good evening, Mr. Vance."
"You still keep promises."
Christian remained silent.
The voice continued.
"Scott trusted the wrong man."
"You have one hour."
"Bring us the boy..."
"...or you'll never see Sergeant Scott Miller alive again."
The call ended.
Christian stood motionless.
Scott wasn't merely alive.
He was a prisoner.
And whoever controlled him had just declared war—not only on Christian, but on the entire empire he had spent a decade building.
As emergency sirens echoed outside the Luminary Hotel, Christian looked down at Ethan, whose tiny hand still clutched the silver watch that had once belonged to his father.
The promise made in the flames ten years ago had returned.
This time...
May you like
Breaking it would cost far more than one man's life.
