CHAPTER 1 – THE MAN WHO SAW EVERYTHING

CHAPTER 1 – THE MAN WHO SAW EVERYTHING

The silence inside the hospital suite lasted only a heartbeat.

Then chaos erupted.

"Call the trauma team!" Elaine Parker screamed, dropping the folder she had been carrying.

Marcus Thorne rushed across the polished marble floor and dropped to his knees beside his wife.

"Khloe!"

His voice cracked in a way it hadn't since the day his father died.

Khloe barely managed to open her eyes.

Pain radiated through every inch of her body.

Her hands never left her stomach.

"Our baby..."

The words were almost too soft to hear.

Marcus immediately slid one arm beneath her shoulders while carefully supporting her abdomen.

He could feel her trembling.

Not from fear.

From shock.

Blood.

A thin crimson line slowly spread beneath the white fabric covering her side.

Marcus's heart stopped.

"No..."

Across the room Isabella Rossi suddenly burst into tears.

"I didn't mean—"

Then she stopped herself.

She quickly changed direction.

"I was defending myself!"

Elaine looked back and forth between the two women.

Nothing made sense.

Khloe was curled into a protective position around her unborn child.

Isabella stood untouched.

Not a wrinkle on her expensive gown.

Not a scratch on her skin.

Marcus slowly stood.

His face contained no emotion.

That frightened Elaine more than if he had shouted.

"What happened?"

No one answered.

Marcus repeated the question.

This time his voice carried the authority that had built one of America's largest investment empires.

"What..."

"...happened?"

Isabella stepped forward first.

"Marcus...she lost control."

She wiped away perfectly timed tears.

"She accused me of trying to steal you."

"I tried calming her."

"She attacked me."

Marcus stared at her.

She continued.

"When I defended myself..."

"...she slipped."

Elaine frowned.

Something about the explanation felt rehearsed.

Too perfect.

Too clean.

Marcus slowly turned toward his wife.

"Khloe."

His voice became gentle.

"Tell me."

Khloe struggled to breathe.

Every word hurt.

"I..."

She looked directly into Marcus's eyes.

"She kicked me."

Nothing more.

No dramatic speech.

No desperate attempt to defend herself.

Just four words.

She kicked me.

Marcus looked toward Isabella again.

For years she had been one of the family's closest social acquaintances.

She attended charity galas.

Business dinners.

Private auctions.

Christmas parties.

His mother adored her.

Magazine reporters constantly hinted that Isabella would have been the perfect Mrs. Thorne.

Marcus had ignored every rumor.

Until tonight.

The room suddenly filled with medical staff.

"Move!"

Doctors rushed inside pushing an emergency stretcher.

A senior obstetrician immediately examined Khloe.

Her expression changed within seconds.

"We're losing fetal stability."

The words hit Marcus harder than any business crisis he had ever faced.

"We need Operating Room Three immediately."

Several nurses carefully lifted Khloe.

She cried out the moment her body left the floor.

Marcus instinctively grabbed her hand.

"I'm here."

"You hear me?"

"I'm not leaving."

Khloe squeezed his fingers weakly.

"Protect..."

"Our baby..."

"I will."

The doors closed behind the medical team.

The hallway suddenly felt unbearably empty.

Marcus remained frozen outside the operating suite.

His tuxedo sleeves were stained with Khloe's blood.

Elaine quietly approached him.

"I called hospital security."

Marcus nodded without looking away from the operating room.

"Good."

Behind them Isabella slowly regained her composure.

She understood something important.

No witnesses.

Only three people had been inside the suite.

Her.

Khloe.

Marcus arrived afterward.

Everything depended on who people believed.

She inhaled deeply.

Then took out her phone.

She quickly sent a message.

Delete everything.

Within seconds the reply arrived.

Already handling it.

Isabella allowed herself a tiny smile.

The cameras outside the hallway never showed what happened inside the private suite.

Private VIP rooms respected patient privacy.

No cameras.

No evidence.

No problem.

Or so she believed.

Three floors below...

Inside Hospital Security Control...

Rows of monitors covered an entire wall.

Hallways.

Elevators.

Emergency entrances.

Parking garages.

Every angle of the building.

A middle-aged technician stared at one particular screen.

He frowned.

"That's strange."

The VIP suite feed had automatically switched to internal emergency recording.

He enlarged the window.

His eyes widened.

"What the..."

Before he could react, the security room door burst open.

A tall man in a navy overcoat walked inside.

Doctors immediately stepped aside.

No one questioned his authority.

The hospital director himself followed behind.

"Mr. Grant..."

The director spoke respectfully.

"The recording is ready."

The man removed a pair of leather gloves.

His expression remained calm.

Too calm.

"My niece?"

"She's in surgery."

His jaw tightened.

"I want every second."

The technician swallowed nervously.

"Sir..."

"It recorded everything."

The man slowly nodded.

"My name is Adrian Grant."

He looked directly at every employee inside the room.

"I am Chief of Hospital Security..."

"...and Khloe Thorne is my sister's daughter."

Silence filled the room.

Every technician suddenly realized the gravity of what they had captured.

Adrian spoke only one sentence.

"Lock this room."

"No one leaves."

"No one copies."

"No one deletes."

"And if anyone has already tried..."

He looked toward the frozen technician.

"I want their name."

The technician's fingers immediately flew across the keyboard.

Less than thirty seconds later...

A warning flashed red.

REMOTE ACCESS ATTEMPT DETECTED

Location...

Unknown Device...

Unauthorized Login...

Time...

Three minutes ago.

Exactly when Isabella had sent her text message.

Adrian's eyes turned cold.

"So..."

"They already know the recording exists."

He watched the progress bar complete.

The footage began playing.

The screen showed Khloe standing quietly beside the marble table.

Then...

Isabella walked forward.

No provocation.

No argument.

No attack from Khloe.

Only pure violence.

First shove.

Second shove.

Then—

The kick.

Every frame.

Crystal clear.

No edits.

No blind spots.

The technician covered his mouth.

"My God..."

Adrian never blinked.

He simply reached for his phone.

There was only one person he intended to call.

Marcus Thorne.

Because within the next five minutes...

May you like

The lies surrounding the Thorne family were about to begin collapsing.
