Chapter 3

Chapter 3: The Bloodline Ledger
Chloe stared at the silver locket in Alexander’s hand. It was identical to the one she had worn around her neck since she was a child—the only keepsake left by her mother, an independent gemologist who had died in a suspicious car accident when Chloe was just ten years old.
"What do you mean?" Chloe asked, her mind racing despite the haze of painkillers. "My mother was just a lab technician. She had nothing to do with the Sterling family."
"Your mother wasn't a technician, Chloe. She was the primary shareholder of the Aurora Mine in South Africa—the largest source of blue diamonds in the world," Alexander explained, stepping closer and dropping the locket onto her lap. "When she died, her shares were placed into a blind trust that could only be unlocked by her biological child upon the birth of a male heir. That boy sleeping in the crib isn't just a Sterling heir, Chloe. He is the key to seventy percent of the global diamond market. That’s why Julian targeted you. That’s why Victoria wants you gone."
The truth hit Chloe like a physical blow. The romance, the accidental pregnancy, the sudden marriage proposal—it wasn't a fairytale. It was a hostile corporate takeover disguised as love.
"They planted those espionage documents in my apartment so they could threaten me," Chloe realized, her voice trembling with a mixture of horror and sudden, fierce clarity.
"Exactly," Alexander nodded. "They need you to sign that surrender document because if you leave voluntarily, the trust defaults to Julian as the legal guardian of the child. But if you stay, and if you fight, you can strip the Sterling family of everything they own."
Downstairs, the sound of a commotion began to echo through the hallway. Shouting voices and the heavy footsteps of security guards approached the VIP suite.

"They know I’m here," Alexander said, his amber eyes narrowing as he checked a small, encrypted device on his wrist. "Chloe, I have an extraction team downstairs. I can get you and the baby out of this hospital right now, but you have to trust me. If you sign those papers, you lose him forever. If you come with me, we go to war."Chloe looked from the gold Montblanc pen on the bed to her sleeping son. The fear that had paralyzed her minutes ago burned away, replaced by a fierce, maternal rage. She grabbed the leather document folder and ripped it in half with her bare hands.
"Get us out of here," she said.
