Chapter 6 - The Unraveling Syndicate
Gavin’s face turned bright red. "That’s a lie! That’s corporate slander!"
"Is it?" Lucas asked coolly, gesturing to Arthur Vance, who stepped into the room accompanied by two agents from the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.
"Gavin Cross," Agent Miller stated, pulling out a federal warrant. "You are under arrest for bribery, forgery of medical records, and attempted wire fraud."
Gavin backed away toward the window, looking around frantically for an escape route, but the two federal agents tackled him to the floor, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists before pulling him up.
"Evelyn!" Gavin screamed as he was dragged away. "Fix this! You promised me a cut of the trust!"
The entire boardroom turned their gazes toward Evelyn, who sat frozen in her leather chair, her hands shaking uncontrollably.
"Mother," Lucas said, stepping up to the head of the table. "Our forensic accounting team didn't just audit Gavin’s accounts last night. We audited Victoria’s corporate expenses for the last three years."
Lucas tossed a stack of bank statements in front of his mother.
"Victoria didn't just smash Clara's music box out of spite," Lucas revealed to the board. "She did it because she was desperate. She embezzled $30 million from the company’s charitable foundation to cover her illegal offshore gambling debts. She needed Clara out of the estate so she could sell off the family’s real estate assets before the annual audit next week."
The board members gasped in absolute disgust.
"A thief, an assaulter, and a fraudster," the senior board chairman sneered, looking at Evelyn with complete disdain. "Motion to dismiss Evelyn Vance from the board permanently and reaffirm Lucas Vance as lifetime CEO!"
"Seconded!" three board members shouted in unison.

"Motion passed," the chairman declared, slamming his wooden gavel. "Mrs. Vance, leave this building before security escorts you out in cuffs."
Evelyn grabbed her designer handbag and stumbled out of the boardroom, humiliated, broken, and completely stripped of her power.
