Chapter 5: The Microscopic Evidence

The ballroom was locked in a state of suspended animation. The heavy heartbeat pulse faded into a high-pitched, piercing ringing sound that merged seamlessly with a shocking, thunderous cinematic clap echoing through the estate.
Arthur held Lucas tightly against his heart, his hands trembling as he stroked the boy's messy dark hair, checking him for injuries while trying to calm his own boiling rage.
Eight-year-old Lucas pulled back slightly from his father’s embrace. Despite his pale, exhausted face and trembling lips, his dark eyes held a chilling, preternatural calmness that contrasted sharply with the chaos around them.
The camera closed in rapidly, framing an extreme close-up on Lucas’s eyes, fierce and determined, as he slowly raised a tiny, sleek micro digital tape recorder from the pocket of his tattered grey shirt.
Without a word, Lucas pressed the device directly into Arthur’s wide, bloodshot palm, closing his father’s fingers around the cold metal casing.
Lucas stared past his father’s shoulder, fixing his unwavering gaze directly upon Evelyn, who sat huddled in terror against the pillar.
"I recorded everything she did to Mommy," Lucas whispered with chilling calm, his small voice cutting cleanly through the ringing silence of the room.

The words hit Arthur like a physical blow. The memory of his late wife—whose tragic, sudden passing two years ago had been ruled an accidental overdose—flashed violently through his mind. Evelyn had orchestrated it all. She had stolen his family, locked his son away in the dark, and built an empire of lies on top of their suffering.
Arthur slowly lowered his gaze to the micro digital tape recorder in his palm. His thumb rested on the play button. The final piece of the puzzle was in his hand, and the trap was about to snap shut.
