Chapter 6: The Mansion Lockdown

Within moments of Lucas's revelation, the opulent ballroom transformed into an impenetrable fortress. Arthur Sterling stood up slowly, lifting his son into his arms with fierce protectiveness. The raw fury in his expression had hardened into an icy, calculated resolve.
"Lock the estate down," Arthur commanded, his voice carrying the absolute weight of command across the hall.
Before any guest could attempt to slip toward the exit, heavy-duty security shutters slammed down over the massive French doors and windows of the Sterling mansion. Armed private security personnel, summoned instantly by the estate's automated alert grid, fanned out across the grand foyer, blocking every exit and corridor. The high-society gala had turned into a high-security detention facility.
Arthur carried Lucas toward a quiet parlor adjacent to the ballroom, gently placing him on a velvet sofa. He signaled to the estate’s personal physician, who rushed forward with a medical kit to check the boy’s vital signs, administering oxygen and water.
Sophie stood near the doorway, still wearing her grey maid dress and yellow rubber gloves, hesitant to intrudge upon the billionaire family’s private crisis.
"You," Arthur said, turning his piercing gaze toward Sophie. His voice, though cold and commanding, held a distinct undertone of gratitude. "What is your name?"
"Sophie, sir," she answered steadily, keeping her posture upright despite her frayed nerves. "I'm... I'm one of the evening maids."
"Sophie, you saved my son's life," Arthur said, stepping closer. "If you hadn't been standing near that wall when Evelyn lashed out, Lucas might never have seen the light of day again."
"I just heard him, Mr. Sterling," Sophie replied softly, glancing over at Lucas, who gave her a weak, grateful nod. "No child deserves to be locked in the dark."
Before Arthur could reply, heavy footsteps approached the parlor entrance. Two armed security guards escorted a disheveled Evelyn into the room. Her red silk gown was stained with plaster dust, her diamond bracelet clattering against her wrist as she trembled uncontrollably.
"Arthur! Please, you have to listen to me!" Evelyn sobbed, dropping to her knees on the Persian rug and reaching for his tuxedo trousers. "It was all a misunderstanding! The boy... he was unstable, he needed medical isolation, I was trying to protect the family name!"
Arthur looked down at her with eyes devoid of any human warmth. He slowly raised his right hand, displaying the micro digital tape recorder Lucas had given him.
"Protection?" Arthur whispered, his voice dangerously low. "Or was it the inheritance, Evelyn? Was it my multi-billion-dollar portfolio that you and your offshore co-conspirators were trying to siphon before anyone noticed the truth?"
He pressed play.

The quiet parlor filled with the undeniable audio of Evelyn’s voice from months prior—cold, calculating, threatening a helpless child in the dark, discussing how she planned to drain the Sterling accounts once the legal declarations of death were finalized.
Evelyn’s face turned the color of ash. Her mouth opened, but no sound came out. She slumped forward onto the rug, realizing that every lie she had constructed had just been vaporized.
