Chapter 4: A New Horizon for the Vances

Six months later.

The high-society tabloids had finally stopped running front-page stories about the infamous Vance staircase attempted murder. Vivian’s trial had been swift and brutal; faced with Lily’s unyielding eyewitness testimony and forensic evidence of skin cells under Eleanor’s fingernails from the struggle, Vivian pleaded guilty to avoid a life sentence. She was currently serving twenty-five years in a maximum-security prison, her assets entirely seized.

Miraculously, Eleanor Vance had survived. Though she now used a polished silver cane to assist her walking, her sharp mind and fierce spirit remained completely unbroken.

On a beautiful, warm summer evening, the grand marble foyer was bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. The dark energy that had plagued the house during Vivian’s time was completely gone.

Harrison stood by the large double doors, watching as Eleanor sat on a plush sofa, helping Lily with her third-grade art project. The sound of their shared laughter filled the high ceilings, replacing the echo of that horrific thud with the music of a healing family.

Harrison walked over, kneeling beside his daughter and kissing the top of her head before gently taking his mother’s hand.

"How are you feeling today, Mom?" Harrison asked softly.

Eleanor smiled, her eyes shining as she looked at her son and her brave little granddaughter. "I am wonderful, Harrison. The stairs are just stone, but this family... this family is built on rock. We are safe now."

Lily wrapped her arms around both of them, her brave heart finally at peace. They had exposed the monster in the gold gown, and together, they had reclaimed their home, proving that no amount of wealth or greed could ever defeat the power of the truth.
