Chapter 25: A Quiet Feast in a Loud World

In the wake of the regulatory revolution, the city fell into a rare, peaceful lull as the summer heat began to mellow into the golden tones of autumn. The foundation’s operations were running seamlessly, protected by both the public trust and the iron-clad legal frameworks they had fought so hard to build.

To celebrate the establishment of the new oversight coalition, Naomi decided to host an intimate dinner at her private residence, away from the flashing cameras and the relentless press. The guest list was small: her mother Ruth, Audrey, Detective Ellis, and Jae-min.

Naomi spent the entire afternoon in her kitchen, meticulously preparing a multi-course meal that paid homage to her journey.

For the main course, she served Galbi-jjim (Braised Beef Short Ribs), slow-cooked in a rich, deeply aromatic sauce sweetened with orchard pears from the valley, served alongside perfectly aged heirloom side dishes.

Bà Ruth sat at the head of the table, her eyes clear and peaceful as she watched her daughter move gracefully around the room. She reached out and took Audrey’s hand, squeezing it gently.

"For so many years, I lived in the dark, terrified of the Park name," Ruth said, her voice soft but steady. "But looking at this table tonight, I realize that the shadow didn't swallow us. My daughter brought the light into the shadow."

Detective Ellis raised his glass in a toast. "To Naomi Brooks. The only chef I know who can bring down a corrupt empire and a government ministry with nothing but a wooden spoon and absolute truth."

Everyone laughed, the sound warm and resonant within the walls of the home. Jae-min looked at Naomi, his eyes filled with a quiet, profound devotion that had only deepened through every battle they had shared.
