CHAPTER 46

CHAPTER 46: THE AUTUMN MORNING
Autumn arrived gently.
The leaves turned gold.
The air became cooler.
And one morning, I found my mother standing in the garden with a cup of tea.
She looked peaceful.
"You're up early," I said.
She smiled.
"So are you."
I sat beside her.
For a while, we watched the sun rise.
Then she said something unexpected.
"I used to hate mornings."
I laughed.
"I remember."
"They felt like responsibilities."
"And now?"
She looked toward the sky.
"They feel like gifts."
I swallowed hard.
She noticed.
"Hey," she said softly, "don't do that."
"What?"
"Don't look at me like I'm disappearing."
I looked away.
Because sometimes I still did.
I still counted the good days.
Still feared the bad ones.
She reached for my hand.
"I'm here."
I nodded.
"I know."
She smiled.
"Then let's enjoy breakfast."
It was such a simple sentence.
And somehow, it became one of my favorite memories.
Because that morning, we didn't talk about illness.
Or regret.
Or fear.
We talked about pancakes.
And birds.
And whether Sunny was secretly stealing socks.
It was ordinary.
Beautifully ordinary.
And I finally understood something.

The most precious moments in life are rarely dramatic.
They're usually quiet.
