Chapter 15 - THE SECOND SIGNATURE
The surrender agreement appeared impossible.
Alejandro Alcázar had been dead for four years.
Yet his signature appeared beneath Valeria’s.
A notary seal confirmed that the document had been signed three months earlier.
Judge Cárdenas ordered the notary brought to court.
Her name was Elena Fuentes.
She arrived trembling.
At first, she insisted the document was legitimate.
Then Mateo placed the blue ledger before her.
Her name appeared beside five payments from Aurelia Holdings.
Elena began to cry.
“Octavio gave me the papers.”
“He said the family had approved everything.”
“Did Valeria sign them?” the judge asked.
“No.”
“Did Sebastián?”
“No.”
“Did Alejandro Alcázar rise from the dead to witness them?”
Elena lowered her head.
“No.”
The surrender agreement collapsed.
But Elena revealed something more important.
Octavio kept a digital archive containing every forged signature, seal, medical report, and legal order.
The archive was protected by a password.
Only Rebeca knew it.
Mateo requested authorization to search Rebeca’s devices.
Judge Cárdenas approved it.
Federal agents seized her phone.
Rebeca remained silent while technicians examined it.
The password was not a number.
It was a name.
ALEJANDRO.
The archive opened.
Hundreds of files appeared.
There were psychiatric reports written before Valeria attended the appointments.
Photographs of staged damage inside the mansion.
Instructions sent to Dr. Mena.
Payments to Judge Villarreal.
Draft press releases describing Valeria’s breakdown weeks before she entered labor.
There was also a recording from Rebeca’s office.
Octavio asked what they would do if Sebastián discovered the plan.
Rebeca answered without hesitation.
“He will choose the company.”
“And if he chooses Valeria?”
“Then he is no longer my son.”
Sebastián listened from across the courtroom.
Rebeca looked at him.
For one moment, neither spoke.
Then Sebastián placed his wedding ring on Valeria’s table.
Not on his finger.
Not yet.
But no longer hidden.
Rebeca noticed.
“You would destroy your inheritance for her?”
Sebastián shook his head.
“You destroyed it when you decided my daughter was an asset.”
Federal agents approached Rebeca.
Before they could place her under arrest, an officer entered and whispered to Mateo.
Octavio had contacted Sebastián’s private office.
He wanted to negotiate.
He offered to surrender the complete financial archive.
In exchange, he wanted safe passage out of Mexico.
