Chapter 3: Through the Glass

Victor reached for his phone.
“We can talk about this,” he said quickly. “You don’t understand—”
Elena grabbed his jacket before he could finish.
Years of anger erupted in one violent motion.
Victor stumbled backward across the marble floor.
His heel caught the edge of a rug.
Then came the crash.
Glass exploded outward as he slammed through the patio door and disappeared into the swimming pool below.
Water surged across the tiles.
Marina gasped.
Elena didn’t even look at the pool.
She dropped to her knees beside Marina and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“Hey,” she whispered. “Look at me. You’re safe now.”
