Chapter 7: A Sister’s Promise

Marina sat in the nursery, staring at a half-finished crib.
“Why are you helping me?” she asked softly.
Elena placed a folded blanket beside her.
“Because I know what it’s like to be trapped.”
Years earlier, Elena had escaped an abusive marriage of her own. She had built the family trust specifically to protect the women in her family from losing everything.
“You’re not alone anymore,” Elena said.
Marina wiped away tears.
“I thought no one would ever believe me.”
Elena smiled sadly. “That’s what men like Victor count on.”
