Chapter 14 - The Hidden Escape Hatch
Knowing they were outmatched, Clara didn't negotiate. She grabbed a heavy iron skillet from the stove and slammed it into the face of the nearest henchman. "Run, Lily! To the pantry!" Clara screamed. Lily didn't hesitate. She scrambled into the small food pantry in the back of the kitchen. Beneath a pile of empty burlap sacks was a small wooden trapdoor that Clara had prepared months ago as an emergency exit. Lily pulled the latch, plunging into a dark service chute that led down into the building’s basement.
